We must build and keep going

12 April 2024

Michael Smith’s late equaliser in midweek felt a huge moment in the season as the Owls completed the comeback against play-off hopefuls Norwich.

To come from two goals down against the Canaries and post a precious point at this stage of the campaign could well prove vital.

Manager Danny Röhl says it is important his side build on that grandstand midweek finish as Wednesday host Stoke City on Saturday.

“It was a massive reaction from our team and to take the point was important,” he said.

“But now it is about making the next points on Saturday.

“This is the key moment otherwise the point on Tuesday was just a point. But if you can take the next points on Saturday, then it is a huge step forward.

“At the moment we feel very strong, we look just to ourselves, to our performance, to our results and if we do our homework then we will have a great chance.

“The direction is great and since I arrived here, we have come closer and closer.

“In some bad moments, maybe some people felt we are finished but we rise and come back again.

“In these ups and downs we try to find the right solutions, it is always a good reaction from my team, my players with how they fight.

“This is the spirit we need from the last four games.”

From cut adrift in the Championship relegation zone, the Owls have worked their way back into contention and, once again this weekend, have the potential to climb above the line.

Röhl continued: “Our season began after 13 matchdays, that means we have a season just with 33 matchdays. It means other teams have 46 games but we need the same points to stay in the league.

“It is a huge effort, huge performance at the moment and we have to keep going.

“We will only be happy once we have achieved our goals and then we can have a good summer ahead of us.”
