Focus on our performance

24 February 2024

With results elsewhere keeping the basement battle at boiling point, Danny Röhl has stressed the need for his players to focus solely on themselves.

Victories for Millwall, Huddersfield and QPR highlighted the need for the Wednesday win delivered against Bristol City.

Röhl told swfc.co.uk: “We must focus on our performance. Of course, we know about the results everywhere else straight away, but I said to the guys ‘focus on yourself, focus on yourself’.

“We have 12 finals to go and if we keep on going the way we are, we will have the best chance of staying in the Championship.

“We have won three games from four, the atmosphere is amazing, and even the game we lost at Leicester, the fans gave the players a standing ovation because they recognise what we are trying to do.

“Again today, my players gave everything, the way we managed the game with 10 men was very professional and solid and made sure we took the points.”

Röhl had no complaints with Di’Shon Bernard’s red card for two bookable offences late on against the Robins. The defender will now sit out next Saturday’s derby clash at Rotherham.

He said: “I think the decision was correct. We cannot have any arguments about this. This is football, these things happen in games.

“We will have other options, we have Bambo, Dominic is back with us and hopefully Akin will also be ready.

“We have a big week coming up with teams of different profiles in Rotherham, Plymouth and Leeds.

“So we continue to do what we are doing, we work hard, we train hard and take those principles into games.”
