Young Rio Spurr and family had the holiday of a lifetime over Christmas, courtesy of the Create a Dream Foundation.
Rio, the son of former Owls defender Tommy Spurr, has made huge strides in his battle against a rare and aggressive cancer.
Create a Dream help seriously ill children and young people in the Sheffield and South Yorkshire region and help to make their dreams come true by funding gifts and experiences.
The charity have followed Rio’s journey and stepped in with a holiday to remember in Lapland for the Spurr family during the festive period.
Tommy, his wife Chloe, Rio and his brother Rudy, had a fantastic time and commented: “Our trip to Lapland was everything we dreamed of and more!
“We cannot thank the Create a Dream Foundation enough. We are so grateful for such an unbelievable experience for Rio and our family.
“Rio and Rudy’s faces lit up at all the magic, it was amazing seeing how brave Rio was on the slopes!
“Last December, Rio was still in the thick of his cancer treatment. We were terrified it might be his last Christmas. This year, in stark contrast, he is thriving at school and growing to be a confident and magnificent little boy. It is a privilege watching him flourish.
“We are so proud of him. With his chance of relapse still being one in two, (and if he relapses, chance of survival around 10%) we desperately pray that he continues to be healthy.”
