He is ready for this moment

Pierce Charles is set to make his Sheffield Wednesday senior bow on Friday night when the Owls host Coventry in round four of the Emirates FA Cup.

The 18-year-old is highly rated behind the scenes at Middlewood Road and is very much part of the first team squad’s training group on a day-to-day basis.

Charles has featured on occasion for the seniors in pre-season friendlies and has been a regular for the Under-21s since joining from Manchester City at the age of 15.

With Cameron Dawson injured during the week and James Beadle cup-tied, Charles is set to line-up in our starting XI on Friday.

Manager Danny Röhl said: “We have a new injury with Cameron, he has picked up injury in the week, so we will look to another goalkeeper for this game.

"James cannot play as he has already played in the cup. Pierce has trained very well since I arrived and football can move fast.

“I was asked recently if he is going on loan, tomorrow he will play in the starting XI but we are convinced about him. He is ready for the moment.

“He has high potential and he has showed a lot and tomorrow it is a good opportunity for him and we go forward.”
