I know what he can bring for us

16 January 2024

Anthony Musaba was pleased to be reunited with a former teammate last week following the arrival of Iké Ugbo on loan from Troyes.

The pair first met when they moved to Belgium with Cercle Brugge in August 2020, Musaba joining on loan from Monaco and Ugbo on a temporary switch from Chelsea.

Now the attacking duo are reacquainted in S6 and Musaba was pleased to receive the phone call from Ugbo ahead of his move..

The winger said: “He called me and I was really happy, I know what he can bring for us.

“I know his qualities and that is what we need. I know him and I played well with him so it’s a really good thing we are here.”

The young duo enjoyed a productive stint in the Jupiler Pro League, finishing as the club’s top goalscorers with Ugbo netting 17 and Musaba six in all competitions.

Now the Dutchman is hoping to replicate their prolific combination in blue and white.

The 23-year-old added: “We had a good time together, we were on loan and I think people know about the connection we had on the pitch, we scored a lot of goals.

“It was a nice experience, we lived close to each other, and we spent time after training and would go for food.

“In Belgium the league is one that I think would prepare you for football in England, so it was a good experience.

“The connection between us is good and I hope we can do the same together here at Sheffield Wednesday.

“We enjoyed playing together, the stats show this and I am convinced we can show the same here.

“I show him around the training ground and I try to show him everything I know about this place and the club.”
