Iké Ugbo joins Owls on loan

11 January 2024

The Owls have signed Iké Ugbo on loan for the remainder of the season from French Ligue 2 side Troyes.

Ugbo spent the first half of this campaign in the Championship on a temporary deal with Cardiff City – scoring against Wednesday back in August.

He now moves to Hillsborough and becomes our second signing of the January transfer window following the capture of goalkeeper James Beadle.

At 25-years-old, Ugbo brings with him plenty of experience with over 100 senior starts to his name and 38 goals along the way.

Similar loan moves followed – to MK Dons, Scunthorpe United, Roda JC in Holland and Belgian outfit Cercle Brugge.

Ugbo stayed in Belgium to sign for Genk on a permanent basis, scoring a match-winning goal against Anderlecht on his debut.

A loan switch came next with Troyes, where the forward impressed to earn a four-year contract.

On the international stage, Ugbo represented England Under-17s and Under-20s before switching his allegiance to Canada.

He earned an immediate call-up for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and was part of the Canada squad that featured in the Qatar showpiece.

Ugbo has been allocated shirt number 12 for the duration of his S6 stay.

Welcome to Wednesday, Iké!
