Southampton v Wednesday
Saturday 13 January
St Mary’s Stadium
It’s back to the Championship following Emirates FA Cup action last weekend and the Owls are tasked with a tough assignment at promotion-chasing Southampton.
The Saints are in the midst of an 18-match league unbeaten run - 19 including the cup - with their last defeat back in September against Middlesbrough.
Since then, the South Coast side have embarked upon a strong run of resistance and head into the game three points shy of the top two.
Wednesday, though, travel with confidence as one of the form teams ourselves. With back-to-back Championship wins - and another in the cup - Danny Röhl’s men have reduced what was a 12-point deficit to safety to just three and could exit the drop zone with a win at St Mary’s.
In a reflection of both teams’ impressive pedigree, former Saints assistant Röhl and current boss Russell Martin have been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for December.
Wednesday: Rohl has increased options given two signings this week in the January transfer window.
Goalkeeper James Beadle and forward Iké Ugbo look set to be in the squad, while elsewhere Bambo Diaby can return having served a three-match suspension.
George Byers is ruled out as the midfielder has one game remaining on his three-match ban.
There are no fresh injury concerns in the camp, although the contest will likely come too soon for Callum Paterson, who continues to be assessed following a recent bout of concussion.
Southampton: Russell Martin can select from a full-strength squad as Southampton look to equal a club record of 19 league games unbeaten.
Despite plenty of speculation, there have been no departures in the winter window so far, with the only newcomer being teenage midfielder Joe O’Brien Whitmarsh from Cork City.
Limited tickets remain for Wednesdayites, which are on sale at the Ticket Office and online HERE until 2:30pm on Friday.
