Match Pack: Wednesday v Cardiff

5 January 2024

Wednesday v Cardiff City
Saturday 6 January
Emirates FA Cup third round

Attention turns to the FA Cup this weekend and the Owls are out to extend our impressive run of recent form.

Danny Röhl has steered his side to five wins from eight games, including back-to-back successes against Preston and Hull.

Visitors Cardiff have posted a mixed bag of results over the same period, with four wins, three defeats and one draw.

The Owls reached the fourth round stage of the FA Cup last season, losing to Fleetwood after a replay, while Cardiff were ousted in the third round by Leeds, also following an initial stalemate.

Wednesday: Röhl could shuffle his pack for the cup clash. The Owls manager intimated in his pre-match press conference that fringe players are in line to feature in the squad, while others could be rested following the hectic holiday calendar in the Championship.

George Byers and Bambo Diaby remain suspended. Callum Paterson sits out the match while he continues to follow concussion protocols after being forced out of the action at Coventry on Boxing Day.

Cardiff: Assistant manager Nikolaos Karydas faced the media and said Cardiff will field a strong side on Saturday.

Winger Carlon Grant is likely to miss out, though, with a hamstring injury sustained during the New Year’s Day draw with Leicester, while defender Dimitrios Goutas will be absent having suffered a family bereavement.

We are reminding supporters to arrive at the stadium as always to avoid unnecessary queuing.

Please note there will be no tickets available on the turnstiles on matchday, fans are advised to book a digital ticket in advance and scan from their smartphone.
