We learn, improve and move on

13 January 2024

It was anything but a happy return to St Mary’s for Danny Röhl on Saturday.

The former Southampton assistant manager took his Wednesday side south but was given a harsh reminder of the battles at different ends of the Championship table.

Saints emerged comfortable 4-0 winners and Röhl had no complaints.

He told swfc.co.uk: “This is a different level of team and we must learn, improve and move forward.

“They are a very, very good team and their last goal I thought was really special. The way they pass and move the ball, the way they play, it is clear they have a very good chance of promotion.

“We did not come here to park the bus, it was important not to lose our identity, and we did have moments in the game.

“Fletch takes a good shot at 1-0 and the keeper makes a good save, and then again from Josh’s free-kick at 2-0 when a goal would have got us back into the game.

“But hey, Southampton were the better team for sure, they deserved their win, and for us, we recover and move forward with some important games to come.”
