21s ease to victory at the DW

11 March 2024

The Owls Under-21s produced a stunning away performance against Wigan on Monday afternoon, running out 4-0 winners at the DW Stadium.

Favour Onukwuli gave Wednesday a 1-0 half time lead with a crisp near post strike just past the half hour mark.

Two minutes after the restart, the in-form attacker bagged his and Wednesday’s second of the afternoon.

Sam Reed pounced on a loose pass and slipped an inch-perfect feed through the Latics’ backline for Onukwuli to advance and finish inside the far corner.

Wednesday were well in control and a superb Ciaran Brennan free kick effectively sealed the points after 50 minutes.

There was little goalkeeper Matt Corran could do to keep out Brennan’s wonderful strike and as Wednesday maintained the pressure, inevitably, a fourth goal arrived.

Fresh from signing his first professional contract this month, Gabriel Otegbayo headed home from a corner as Andy Holdsworth’s side posted an emphatic win on the road.

SWFC: Charles, Siqueira, Otegbayo, Adetoro (Shipston 68), Reed (Flannery 79), Brennan, Thornton, Buchan, Phuthi, Onukwuli, Fernandes (Cook 68)
