As the Owls look forward to a crucial derby with Leeds at Hillsborough on Friday night, Marvin Johnson has underlined the significance of a united camp.
With Wednesday having posted five wins from six games, an unpredictable Championship has now dangled a huge carrot in S6 as three points would see a giant leap of seven places for Danny Röhl’s men.
Johnson, though, is keeping grounded and explained how togetherness is proving a key factor.
He said: “Our form is phenomenal and we have kept our focus. Some people have written us off this season, saying we are dead and buried, but there’s a lot of fight left in Sheffield Wednesday.
“As a group, the players, the staff, we couldn’t be more connected. You can see the togetherness with the staff. They treat everyone the same.
“Each one of them has got their own characters, you can speak to them all individually and they have their own opinions and it doesn’t sound like it’s just filtering down from the gaffer. Mentally they are a massive help for the players.”
The in-form Johnson went on to speak about the contracted nature of the table when addressing the media on Thursday morning.
Big battles are unfolding at both ends of the second tier, giving rise to an exciting climax to the season.
Johnson added: “The win over Plymouth in midweek held them back to make it even more interesting. It goes all the way up to 16th and depending on results it could go higher than that.
“Our focus is on ourselves. We have individual players getting important goals and we will always back ourselves at Hillsborough.
“You look at the game against Leicester at home earlier in the season and the second half performance at their place, we know what we are capable of.
“Leeds are a top team, they are fighting for promotion, it’s on Sky at night, all the ingredients are there. We need to focus on our jobs, keep on doing what we are doing and the table will take care of itself.”
