Steve Agnew joins the backroom staff and has previously worked Steve Bruce at Hull City and Aston Villa.

The 53-year-old spent eight years at Barnsley as a player between 1983-91 and later went on to represent Blackburn, Portsmouth, Leicester, Sunderland and York.

Upon hanging up his boots, Agnew sought a route into the coaching side of the game and held various positions, including Middlesbrough academy manager, Leeds reserve team boss and assistant manager at Hartlepool.

Following a stint as Boro caretaker boss, Agnew took up the post of assistant manager to Bruce at Hull City in 2012 until 2014, when he re-joined Boro as assistant to Aitor Karanka.

After his second spell as caretaker manager at the Riverside in 2017, Agnew was appointed first team coach with Bruce at Aston Villa in December that year.
