He joined Wednesday on the back of remarkable campaign in Portugal’s top-flight, scoring 17 goals in 32 league starts for National in 2014/15.

Matias has played 24 games for the Owls so far, scoring three goals, including the goal of the 2015/16 season with a stunning volley against Leeds at Elland Road.

Having graduated through the ranks at European giants Sporting Lisbon, Matias enjoyed loan spells in his homeland with Varzim SC, CD Fatima and Real Sport Clube before switching to Primeira Liga outfit Vitoria Guimaraes in 2010.

The wideman then had a further loan spell, this time with Segunda Liga side Freamunde, before returning to his parent club to score ten goals in 56 appearances.

Matias also represented Guimaraes in the 2013/14 UEFA Europa League.

The following season, Nacional came calling for Matias, who promptly found a rich vein of form in the final third before moving to Hillsborough.
