The best of Bannan

9 August 2017

Barry Bannan capped a superb display with one of the goals of the round in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

The midfield ace was a livewire all throughout and fired home a stunner to put the Owls 3-1 ahead after earlier goals from Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher.

Sam Hutchinson, of course, added further gloss late in the game as Wednesday ran out comfortable 4-1 winners.

After the game, Carlos Carvalhal hailed the performance of the whole team and with regard to Bannan, said the midfielder was at his best level.

“Bannan is working hard, he has conditions to go score goals but sometimes he has a different role in the team where he stays a little further away from the goal.

“On Tuesday he was back to the best level of Barry Bannan and we need him in this level of course.

“It was very important in the game.”

Wednesday are back at Hillsborough on Saturday for their first home game of the 2017/18 Championship campaign against QPR and Carlos continued:

“The confidence is very high in this moment, we played our high level of football on Tuesday and now Saturday is another game.

“It’s important we have a very good atmosphere.

“On Tuesday we felt the atmosphere with the fans, they gave very good support and we need this environment.

“With this kind of environment, the level of confidence is more high and the football is better and better.

“We need everybody ready and I’m very happy with all the payers.”
