A great exercise

9 July 2019

Wednesday manager Steve Bruce is delighted by what he has seen from his players throughout an intense training camp in Portugal.

The Owls squad rounded off the ten-day stay on the Algarve by taking part in a training game with Shrewsbury on Tuesday evening at the Estadio da Nora.

Prior to that, the players have been put through their paces with twice daily sessions led by Bruce and his coaching staff.

The team are now set to travel back to the UK on Wednesday morning to prepare for three friendly games against Lincoln, Stocksbridge and Northampton, before jetting back across Europe to Germany.

Reflecting on the work in Portugal, Bruce told swfc.co.uk:

“They look fit and I’m delighted with the way they have applied themselves on pre-season because so far, everybody has come through it.

“Overall, I am delighted. It was a good training exercise for the lads tonight with Shrewsbury.

“The players are in good nick and that’s all you can ask. We’ve got another three and a half weeks so we are pleased with where we are.

“The facilities have been good, the weather has been good and they have worked extremely hard and that’s what we wanted from them.

“Let’s get home now and prepare for Saturday and Tuesday and then get ready to go to Germany.”

He added: “I think the players understand what we want and what we are looking for. All of them have come back in good condition and that was vitally important.”
