The feelgood factor returned to Hillsborough last weekend as Danny Röhl’s first home game in the dugout resulted in three much-needed points for the Owls.
A well-deserved 2-0 win over Rotherham gave reason for positive scenes at full time as Wednesday notched their maiden league victory of 2023/24.
Today, Röhl faced the media to preview our trip to Bristol City this weekend and although delighted to be up and running, the manager says victory over the Millers was just a start.
“We've nothing to celebrate - just the first win,” he said. “I always want more.
“The Rotherham game was the basic I expect from my players. We need to want more and develop our football. I demand lots from players and we can't lean back and celebrate.
“It was important we got the first win, yes. We know we must do a lot more in the next few weeks. We want more and I expect the players to be hungry.
"It's about creating self-confidence and there is a process here now.
“We have a good intensity in our games, we've gone up a lot in terms of numbers but we have to improve every single day.
“If we have good possession and a good structure, it means if we lose the ball we can counter-press quickly. But it's a process, it's about finding a balance between working hard and then resting well.
“We have discussed many things this week, talked about our plan, the basics. After Rotherham, I showed the players a lot of good things from the game. We had a good balance.”
In terms of injury news, Wednesday will head to Ashton Gate in good shape with no fresh concerns.
The manager added: “We have 27 players fit and again, I have a problem to decide who is and isn't in the squad.
“Momo (Diaby) is starting to run outside and he's doing well so we'll see how he does. Maybe he'll get minutes in the Under-21s and then he can come back to the first team environment.
“It's important he is fit because I demand a lot of intensity.”
