Carlos praise for impressive Owls

27 April 2017

Achieving five consecutive victories in any division is an impressive feat – perhaps even more so in the Championship.

And as Wednesday plot to make it six on Saturday, Carlos Carvalhal has praised all the players in the squad for their hard work on the training pitch and the fruit it continues to bear in the games.

The stats also make positive reading for the head coach, who took charge of his 102nd game last time out as the Owls faced Derby at Hillsborough.

The win ratio of Wednesday under the Portuguese currently sits second in the entire history of the club.

Victory over Derby in game number 102 for Carlos was his 48th win as Owls boss – giving a hugely impressive win ratio of 47.06% - and one only bettered by Harry Catterick (1958-1961), who achieved 77 wins from 138 games.

But keen to focus only on the clash with Ipswich, with plenty at stake in a potentially key weekend at the top of the Championship, he said:

“The only thing that is important is the next game.

“We know if we win the game, we achieve the play-offs. We depend on us until the last minute of the competition and that is a big positive.

“We are with confidence, you can see the faces of the players are happy, the training during this week is really very good again and this is the most important, to rely on ourselves.

“We must be ready for all the problems Ipswich will create to us.

“We have broken down a lot of walls in the last weeks, with very good victories over Derby and QPR and five wins on the row, these are just a few of the positive things in the club.

“I must say, the players are doing a fantastic job and there is a very positive vibe at the club.”
