Nothing like the Championship

24 October 2016

Having coached around the world throughout his career, Carlos Carvalhal says there is nothing quite like the Championship.

The Owls have come through a difficult week on paper with trips to Huddersfield and Cardiff and then a home clash with QPR in the space of six days.

After gaining a respectable haul of seven points from nine, Carlos says he is proud of his players, explaining:

“The Championship is very particular, it is unique in the world.

“We’ve had three games in six days in high intensity and nobody play in the world like this.

“High intensity, crowded environments, good coaches, good teams and very different teams.

“Cardiff are completely different to Huddersfield and Huddersfield are completely different to Queens Park Rangers and this is unique.

“But this is something we must be ready for. All the teams have lost games, nobody has 100% victories.

“The value of the teams are not too much different and even if one team is more weak than another but have full energy in the game and are completely focused, then they can win absolutely sure.”

A pleasing observation for the Owls head coach is that his side are now playing at a higher level than at the same point last season.

With a long road ahead in the Championship, Wednesday currently sit fifth in the table following the 1-0 win over the R’s and Carlos added:

“At this point last season, we were not playing at this level. The level from our team now is more high than it was last season in this moment.”
