Owls youngsters set for derby duel

13 March 2017

The Owls Under-18s host city rivals Sheffield United on Tuesday afternoon at Middlewood Road.

Kick-off for the derby is at 1.00pm and supporters are welcome to attend the fixture.

The Wednesday youngsters head into the game in outstanding form with just one defeat from their last ten league outings.

The Under-18s have four wins from their last five games, including impressive victories over Leeds (0-3) and Ipswich (3-2) last time out.

In the previous meeting between the Steel City rivals back in November, a double from George Hirst settled the game at Shirecliffe.

With United sitting at the top of the division with 53 points and the Owls in second on 43 points with a game in hand, Owls Youth Development Phase Manager Ben Wilkinson said: "The game comes at a really good time for us.

"We are in the middle of a good run of form with just one defeat in our last ten league games.

"We've also got several of our Under-18 players performing extremely well at Under-23 level and playing with a lot of confidence.

"The respective league positions of the clubs add that little bit extra to the game and it's a challenge our players are really looking forward to, as we look to cement our place in the end of season play-off positions."
