Stand up and be counted

23 August 2016

Owls full back Jack Hunt says the players must stand up and be counted and produce a performance at Brentford on Saturday.

After back to back defeats, Hunt wants to see a positive reaction at Griffin Park this weekend.

Since the beginning of the process under Carlos Carvalhal over 12 months ago, the Owls’ reaction to defeat has typically been swift.

And the right back wants that steel in the side to be evident in the coming capital clash.

“We have to stand up, go toe to toe with the opposition next week and put it right,” he said.

“It’s tough to take, the easy thing to do is shy away but that’s not what this team is about. We have to stand up to it and take it on the chin. We’ve got a job to do.

“When you’ve been beaten, you just want to get up as quickly as you can and go again, use that hurt as motivation to take into next week.

“As a team we weren’t good enough, individual performances weren’t good enough but we just have to work hard.”

The Owls next face a Brentford side who have won their opening two league fixtures of the campaign.

Wednesday picked up a solid point at Norwich and tasted defeat at Burton in their travels so far and for Hunt, the first victory of the term away from Hillsborough cannot come soon enough.

He added: “In this league, there are a lot of games to go.

“But the next game is massive. We have got to go out there and put in a good performance and hopefully we’ll get the result that goes along with that.”
