A proud partnership

2 November 2014

Glenn Loovens and Tom Lees have formed one of the best central defensive partnerships in the Championship.

The duo have developed an understanding of each other’s games beyond their three months together at Hillsborough.

Wednesday boast one of the best defensive records in the division and Lees is proud of the partnership he has established with Loovens in particular, and indeed the rest of his team mates.

He told swfc.co.uk: “I really enjoy playing with Glenn, it’s great. He’s a top player and a really good captain. It’s a pleasure to play alongside him.

“He’s an experienced player, who has played in different countries but one of his main characteristics is that he’s a good guy off the pitch which is important when you are the captain.

“I’ve learned a lot of things since I’ve joined the club from him but we have also got team mates helping us out.

“Whether it’s the full backs or Westy, who has been brilliant this season and the midfielders who protect us during games.”

But not content by what he has achieved so far, Lees added:

“We work hard at it and I think you can see that by how we play. But we conceded on Saturday and we need to dust ourselves down for Tuesday.

“We’ve got to keep that solidarity at the back. We have a solid base to work from but as a team we need to start creating chances.”
