Carlos had a dream

16 May 2016

Carlos Carvalhal described the chance to manage at Wembley as a dream as his side booked their place in the Championship play-off final following a 1-1 draw away at Brighton that meant a 3-1 aggregate win.

Brighton took the lead when Lewis Dunk poked in a cross at the far post following a heavy spell of pressure from the Seagulls.

The Owls equalised when a Ross Wallace cross from the right-hand side missed everyone and found its way into the corner of Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale’s net.

The 1-1 draw made the aggregate score 3-1 to Wednesday following the Owls’ 2-0 win at Hillsborough last week.

Carvalhal said: “First I want to mention Brighton.

“They’ve had a very good season and have been unlucky towards the end of the season.

“I think they deserved to be promoted, but this doesn’t mean that we don’t, because we have also had a good season.

“Today we had to fight like a team because Brighton are a good side.

“This was not our best game of the season, but today was about the fight of the players.”

Wednesday can now look forward to a play-off final at Wembley, something that Carvalhal described as a dream come true.

He added: “When I was a boy we used to watch the cup finals at Wembley.

“When I got the chance to come to England I never thought in my first year that I would go to Wembley.

“It has been an ambition and something I have dreamed of.

“We have a 50-50 chance, we are the underdogs because the other teams have been ready for longer, this is our first season as a group.

“But, we have the same chance once we get to the final, and we will play to win.”
