Fundraising night awards disability team

21 January 2015

The Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme is set to host a special evening that promises ‘glitz and glamour’ whilst raising funds for the Sheffield Wednesday Football Academy and Ability Counts disability team.

With only three more tables available for the night it is advised those who wish to attend get in contact as soon as possible.

The black tie evening, ‘Glitz & Glamour’, takes place on Friday 20 February 2015 at the Hilton Victoria Quays hotel and starts at 7:00pm, will host a range of entertainment activities to help boost funds needed for the Academy and the Ability Counts team.

The Sheffield Wednesday Ability Counts team, the Community Programme’s disability squad, sponsored by Unity Law, train every week and compete in their own league.

The night will include awarding team member Lee Leonard with the ‘Longest Serving Player’ award. He started playing when the team was originally set up in 1999.  Lee is an independent character and also big Wednesday fan – he even helps out clean up the litter after every match!

Marcus Brameld, the Community Programme Manager, said: “Lee fully deserves his recognition for his hard work and longevity, and the night will highlight other unsung heroes, and provide an opportunity to raise money to continue the invaluable service we provide disability football in Sheffield.”

As well as drinks on arrival and a three course dinner, guests will get to enjoy live music from jazz and swing Sheffield-based artist and Owls fan Paul Pashley.

The funds raised will go to the disability team as well as the club’s football academy, which is in place to train and educate young football scholars with an aim for them to make it to first team football.
