  • Keiren Westwood pleased with Owls' form
  • Goalkeeper aiming for international action
  • Clean sheets are providing perfect foundation says the 29-year-old

Owls number one Keiren Westwood wants to make his recent call-up to the Republic of Ireland squad one of many in the near future.

The Wednesday goalkeeper was named in Martin O’Neill’s squad ahead of Eire’s friendly with Oman earlier this month.

But sadly for the 29-year-old, an untimely bout of tonsillitis ruled the Owls shot-stopper out of the international clash.

Rather than bemoan his luck, Westwood has focused on the positives which include a great start to his career at Hillsborough – with five clean sheets in eight games - and to be back in contention with Ireland.

He said: “It was a shame the way things worked out for me but it was great to get away and good to be back in the squad and pushing for a place again.

“Now I’ve got to keep pushing myself and aim to stay in that squad. I have to show what I’ve got and playing well for Wednesday is the best way to do that.

“I think we are doing great and working hard for each other. We have deserved our rewards. When you keep clean sheets it is a good foundation to work from.”
