Loovens in contention

17 April 2014

The Owls have received good news from the treatment room with defender Glenn Loovens pushing for a return to the side.

The experienced stopper pulled up with a hamstring injury in the trip to Leicester earlier this month but resumed full training yesterday.

Ahead of the busy Easter period, the former Celtic defender’s potential return to action will serve as a boost for Wednesday.

During the pre-match press conference at Middlewood Road, head coach Stuart Gray said:

“Glenn Loovens joined in with training on Wednesday and hopefully we will now see no reaction.

“We’ll assess Glenn ahead of the game at Bournemouth and at this time, he is the only player we are monitoring.”

Swfc.co.uk spoke with Owls midfielder Jose Semedo on Monday, as the Portuguese ace continues with his recovery.

Semedo is hopeful of a return to first team duty before the end of the season.

Gray continued: “Semedo has got his trainers back on and is running on the grass which is a really positive sign.

“He is hopeful of being back before the end of the season and that is something for him to aim for.

“Sam Hutchinson has fully recovered from his sickness bug and we did well to get 80 minutes out of him last week against Blackburn.

“Elsewhere, Jacques Maghoma had a nasty knee injury at Wigan and has been struggling with that so he won’t be ready for Friday.

“Reda Johnson is with the fitness coaches and otherwise, Zayatte and Gardner are still in the treatment room.”
