McGugan arrival gives Owls a lift

21 November 2014

Head coach Stuart Gray has said the arrival of Lewis McGugan has given everyone at the club a lift.

The Watford loanee arrived at Hillsborough for his first training session on Thursday and Gray has been impressed with the quality the goalscoring midfielder has shown.

“Lewis has given training a big lift,” Gray said.

“He has a good habit of playing the ball forward and picking out the devastating pass.

“I will only bring players in who I think improve us and Lewis is going to do that.

“We have been struggling to score goals and you only have to look at Lewis’s CV, he is a goalscoring midfield player and creates chances as well. That’s something we have been missing.”

As Wednesday aim for a return to winning ways in Saturday’s Yorkshire derby with Huddersfield, Gray is happy with the shape of his squad heading into the live Sky Sports clash.

He added: “We have had one or two lads who have got out of the treatment room so the squad is a little bit healthier.

“We have Lewis in the building and there is pressure on him because we haven’t scored goals, but Lewis will not shirk the responsibility.

“If we can drown him with the ball, we know he can hurt the opposition.”
