Owls spurred on by electric S6 atmosphere

3 May 2016

In front of over 30,000 fans at Hillsborough, Wednesday booked their top six spot in style at the weekend and Barry Bannan says the electric atmosphere played a big part.

From the first whistle, the Owls were on the front foot in the crucial clash with Cardiff and Bannan has put a big part of that down to the supporters.

The midfielder – who was named in the PFA Championship Team of the Year earlier in the week – believes the fans’ energy transferred to the pitch and he explained:

“Everybody down to a man was unbelievable and the crowd as well were fantastic. It made for an unbelievable day.

“We came out firing and I think that was down to the boys looking around and feeling that atmosphere.

“It automatically lifts you and gives you an extra 10% and you could see that in our performance.”

Wednesday have one final game in the Championship to negotiate, a trip to Wolves next weekend, before beginning their play-off campaign the following Friday.

Middlesbrough or Brighton will visit Hillsborough on 13 May for the semi final first leg and Bannan added:

“You want to go into the play-offs with a little bit of momentum and that was a great result for us on Saturday.

“Now we’ve got a game against Wolverhampton and we want to go there and get a win to keep it going for the play-offs.”
