Sheffield Wednesday have signed Senegalese international winger Modou Sougou, subject to international clearance.

The 30-year-old has penned a two-year deal at Hillsborough after leaving Marseille by mutual consent.

Sougou began his career with Senegal side AS Douanes as a teen before moving to Portugal with Uniao Desportiva de Leiria in 2004.

During his first year in Europe, the pacey winger attracted the attention of a number of Primeira Liga clubs and signed for Vitoria, for whom he made 27 appearances in 2005/06.

He also played in the UEFA Cup first round against Sampdoria before switching back to Uniao Desportiva de Leiria.

Sougou scored six goals in 37 appearances before he was back on the move to Portuguese top flight side Académica de Coimbra.

It was here where Sougou impressed under manager Andre Villas Boas and nailed down a regular starting shirt, scoring 19 goals in 80 appearances.

A move to Romania and Liga 1 side CFR Cluj came in 2011 and the season was one of success as Cluj won the league title and Sougou chipped in with ten goals and 15 assists.

Sougou then struck three times for Cluj in the Champions League to help his side reach the group stage, where he would go on to score against Galatasaray and feature in the club’s 1-0 win over Manchester United.

His impressive displays in Europe attracted interest from around the world and in January 2013, Sougou signed for French Ligue 1 side Marseille for a reported fee of €4.5m.

During his time at Marseille, Sougou was loaned to Ligue 1 rivals Evian Thonon Gaillard.

The winger is a full international for Senegal, earning his first cap during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations.

He will wear shirt number 24 for Wednesday.
