The positives and the negatives

  • Boss pleased with Owls' two-goal burst
  • But Gray disappointed with Rovers comeback
  • Injury concerns over Lavery and Lee

Stuart Gray took the pros and cons from the Owls’ 2-2 draw with Doncaster on Sunday.

The head coach was pleased with the two goals from Atdhe Nuhiu and Michail Antonio but disappointed the hosts were promptly allowed to restore parity.

Gray said: “I’ve just said to the players that all it takes is to switch off for a second and the ball is in the back of the net.

“When we went into a two-goal lead I thought we were going to be comfortable but we allowed them back into the game.

“I know it’s only pre-season but we have to be fully switched on and not allow bad habits to get anywhere near.

“Overall, though, we did OK, we scored two goals and I think Jacques Maghoma comes out of that game with a lot of credit.

“He looked lively and did ever so well to set up Atdhe’s goal.”

On the fitness front, Gray is pleased with pre-season so far but concerned over two injuries to come out of the Rovers fixture.

He added: “The level of fitness in the boys is good. They’ve had a hard pre-season playing in some very warm weather and that can only be a good thing.

“Today, though, we have lost Caolan Lavery with a knee injury that we will have assessed and Kieran Lee is feeling his groin so we will have to take a look at that one too.”
