Up there with the best

Gary Hooper believes the 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday is up there as one of the Owls’ best performances of the season.

The prolific striker bagged his 11th goal of the campaign either side of strikes from Aiden McGeady – his first for the club – and Marco Matias.

Describing the victory as one of Wednesday’s best displays of the campaign, Hooper says there is more to come in the final nine games.

“It’s right up there but I think we have got better to come,” he said. “Every week, every game, we just concentrate on ourselves, we want to get out on the pitch and play our football.

“I thought we played really well, kept the ball, defended like we normally do and took our goals.

“I think it was a statement from us in what was a tough game. We got on top, played well and took our chances when they came.”

Hooper applied a confident finish after receiving the ball from Fernando Forestieri, who won possession in opposition territory through his characteristic closing down and harassing of defenders.

On his teammate Forestieri, Hooper continued: “Not just for my goal but the first as well.

“Fernando won it back in the middle of the park, gave it to Bannan who found McGeady for his first goal.

“For the second, he gave it to me and I put it in the bottom corner, we pressed really well and that’s the way we do it.”

Forestieri is the Owls’ top goalscorer with 12, though hot on his heels is Hooper, who added:

“I will try and get ahead of him but the main thing is winning games. It doesn’t matter where the goals come from.

“We’re delighted with the performance and result against Forest.”
