Wednesday Futsal scholars to train with elite squad

12 February 2015

As part of the Futsal BTEC Level 3 extended diploma course facilitated by Sheffield Wednesday, the club’s Community Programme has formed a partnership with Sheffield Football Club to provide elite Futsal training.

The partnership will see some of the best players from Sheffield Wednesday’s Futsal squad train alongside the players and coaches from Sheffield FC Futsal.

The two clubs have joined together to help the development and progression of the top players by giving them a unique opportunity to train with Sheffield FC Futsal – who compete in the country’s highest competitive league, the FA National Futsal League.

Sheffield FC are now attached to the club’s Community Programme and have committed themselves to taking those who shine to an elite level, with Sheffield FC Futsal boasting international stars such as Ben Mortlock - England’s Futsal captain.

Ben said: "The link is a great way to learn more about futsal alongside FA Futsal National League coaches and players. It can provide a pathway through to the England national team, whilst also gaining a good qualification in sport".

Spencer Taylor, CSR Manager at Sheffield Wednesday, said: “The education strand of the Community Programme is really excited about the new partnership with Sheffield FC. It’s a great opportunity for those on the futsal course to train with some of the best Futsal players in the country and to learn from the best coaches in England.”
