Young Owl wins community accolade

26 May 2015

The Owls have recognised one junior fan for their outstanding gesture of goodwill to the local community.

Evan Copeland, aged seven, has been awarded the ‘SWFC Young Community Champion’ award for going above and beyond for the community.

Last Boxing Day, Evan was the lucky winner of the Sheffield Wednesday Golden Ticket in the matchday programme which gave him a range of Owls-themed prizes – including a Half Season Ticket.

As Evan was already a Season Ticket holder at Hillsborough, he donated his Half Season Ticket to someone who wouldn’t normally get to go to games and chose Bluebell Wood – official charity partner of the Sheffield Wednesday Community Programme.

The ticket allowed a Bluebell Wood patient and carer to attend every game at Hillsborough for the second half of the 2014/15 campaign.

Evan’s dad Richard said: “We’re all so proud of Evan and since he donated his ticket he’s really learned how important it is to help others less fortunate.

“He’s really impressed the whole family with his selfless attitude – he even gave a signed Wednesday shirt to his friend.”

Evan scooped the accolade after his dad entered him through a competition on the Owls’ official Facebook page.

To mark the award, Evan will be presented with his prize by an Owls player at the club’s annual Community Funday Owls in the Park on Sunday 19 July.

Well done Evan, keep up the good work!
