The fight continues

8 December 2012

Dave Jones says the fight will go on following Saturday’s controversial defeat against Bristol City.

The Owls went down 3-2 after the visitors twice came from behind to take all three points back to the West Country.

Wednesday appeared to have snatched a last-gasp equaliser through Gary Madine but the referee ruled out the strike to leave the home side ensconced in the bottom three.

Jones said: “I have said it before and I will say it again – the only way we will get through this is by sticking together.

“There is no ‘I’....it as all about ‘we’ and that’s the only way it can be.

“I feel for them because they have worked their socks off and taken nothing from the game.

“We have lost a game we should have won and of course it’s frustrating. I feel it, the chairman feels it, the players and the staff feel it and so do the fans.

“But we have been careless today and it has cost us the points. We got our noses in front near the end and then we’ve had a mad few minutes.”

Jones also issued an injury update on Chris O’Grady and Jermaine Johnson, both of whom were withdrawn near the end of the game.

The manager explained: “Chris has a foot injury and JJ was feeling his hamstring. We wouldn’t have changed things otherwise.

“JJ gave us the signal that he couldn’t continue and it’s always better to come off in that situation.

“We will assess them both and take it from there.”
