Owls duo stake claim

9 January 2013

Owls duo Chris Maguire and Jermaine Johnson are both battling to be in contention for a place in the Wednesday starting XI.

Maguire, who has been mainly utilised in cup competition this season, made his fifth appearance of the season against MK Dons at the weekend.

While Johnson has made 27 appearances this term, the pace ace has found himself on the bench in the Owls’ last four outings.

Maguire and JJ both played their part in a behind closed doors friendly game against Rotherham earlier this week with the pair scoring two goals each.

Maguire said: “I signed here to help the team and play games. Hopefully I've done enough to show I can bring something to the team.

“If I can help the team get out of the position that they're in then that is my main objective.”

Like Maguire, JJ is keen to force his way into the manager’s plans and rekindle the form that saw the Jamaican score three goals in the Owls’ opening four games of the season.

“I’ve not been getting much game time as I want but I’m working hard to try to get my place back.

“I’ll just keep fighting and keep focused. I feel really pleased to have got two goals in the friendly.

“It’s not always easy coming on from the bench, but you try to help the team any way you can.”
