Bullen praises young Owls

9 July 2013

A young Sheffield Wednesday side came away from Dinnington with a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening at Phoenix Park.

With the majority of the Under-21s traveling to Stockport with the first team on the same evening, the Owls’ squad at Dinnington was made up of academy scholars and a number of trialists.

Taking into account the youthful nature of the side, Development Squad coach Lee Bullen was praiseful of many aspects of their game.

Wednesday twice came from behind to post a draw with Simon Hanna making the score 1-1 from the penalty spot and Harry Frost heading home from a corner, albeit with the final touch coming from a Dinnington defender.

Bullen said: “I was very, very pleased with the performance, the attitude and the character shown by the boys.

“The Under-21s were at Stockport so we had a very young side out there and three trialists came in and did a good job, as did everyone.

“We played three lots of 30 minutes as opposed to two lots of 45 and it was a good exercise.

“In the end, we finished the game against senior adults with a team made up of five 16 year olds and six 17 year olds.

“Yes, there is room for improvement but attitude-wise and by the way we tried to play in our first game, I was pleased.

“We’ll have more of our Under-21s available for Friday’s game at Gainsborough.”
