A big honour

6 February 2015

Owls new frontman Sergiu Buș has said it is a big honour to sign for Sheffield Wednesday.

The 22-year-old signed a three and a half year contract at Hillsborough from CSKA Sofia and is eligible to make his debut on Saturday.

Buș is keen to ensure his time in England with Wednesday is filled with success and has taken inspiration from a former Romanian star, who forged a fine career on these shores.

Defender Dan Petrescu signed for the Owls in 1994 from Italian side Genoa and made 43 appearances for Wednesday before moving on to Chelsea, Bradford and finally Southampton.

Of Petrescu, who made 95 appearances for Romania between 1989 and 2000, Buș said:

“I know one very big Romanian player who played here, Petrescu. He was a big player in this country so I know it is a big team I have joined and it is a big honour for me to play here.”

And the striker arrives with no lack of ambition.

The former CSKA man has his sights set on Premier League football with the Owls.

He added: “I feel very happy and very confident.

“Premier League is the top level a player can play and that’s where we aim for.

“It’s a big step for me and my career. I want to train hard and if I play well, it could also help me in making the national squad.”
