New recruits Almen Abdi and Daniel Pudil have hailed the Owls’ winning start to the new season – on and off the pitch.
Wednesday kicked off 2016/17 with a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa, courtesy of Fernando Forestieri’s late strike at Hillsborough.
And after the game, the ex-Watford duo reflected on a memorable opener in the Sheffield sunshine.
Abdi said: “We did what we had to do and we are happy with the three points. I thought the atmosphere was really, really good.
“Before the game, the place was rocking and I think I have to learn some of these songs!
“When we scored the goal, the noise was amazing. I was told to expect that kind of thing here but to see and hear it yourself was something else.”
Meanwhile, Pudil underlined the importance of hitting the ground running with a maximum haul.
He said: “It was the perfect start to the season for us. Now we need to build on that.
“I wasn’t here for the first few games last season but obviously we didn’t have too many points towards the end of August and going into September.
“We have three on the board now which is ideal because for our next game in the league at Norwich, we can go there with a big boost to the confidence having beaten a Premier League team from last season.”
