An amazing lift for the players

13 May 2016

As the Owls secured their play-off spot against Cardiff two weeks ago, Ross Wallace says the atmosphere at Hillsborough on that day gave him goosebumps, as the fans roared Wednesday on to victory.

The Scot was suspended on that occasion but is back available for selection this evening.

Wallace wants the fans to bring that atmosphere again tonight as Wednesday host Brighton in the first leg of their play-off semi final.

“We’re confident going into this,” he said. “But the one thing we want to do is get the fans right behind us again.

“I witnessed it in the stands at the Cardiff game and it gave me goosebumps just sitting there.

“I just wanted to be on the pitch and I’m sure the fans will bring that again.

“It’s amazing how much of a lift it brings to the players, when you hear the noise and feel the atmosphere throughout the whole game.”

Wallace likened the atmosphere of the Bluebirds clash to that memorable evening back in October when the Owls defeated Arsenal in the Capital One Cup in front of over 30,000 fans at Hillsborough.

The 30-year-old opened the scoring on that occasion, as Wednesday romped to a 3-0 win.

He continued: “I experienced it at the Arsenal game as well. It was the same kind of atmosphere and they were fantastic the whole way through.

“We want them to push us on and give us that extra lift and I’m sure they will.”
