Luhukay looks for Villa response

21 September 2018

Jos Luhukay is calling on his players to step up and show their credentials ahead of the trip to Aston Villa on Saturday.

The Owls suffered a disappointing reverse at Nottingham Forest in midweek and Luhukay is hoping the swift return to the Midlands bears more fruit.

He said: “We have another game very quickly so the Forest game is now in the past. We started to prepare straight away and we must improve on Saturday.

“We have beaten teams this season towards the bottom with every respect and now we must also beat the teams towards the top.

“I believe Aston Villa will be a team who will be more towards the top so this game is a good test for us.

“I want to see us have more belief – I have 100% confidence and trust in my squad.”

The Owls boss confirmed that Jordan Thorniley will sit out the Villa Park clash after hobbling off at Forest with a calf problem.

Luhukay would not be drawn on the defender’s replacement but new loan recruit Michael Hector is in the frame for a maiden start.

He added: “Jordan must miss this game. I do not expect him to be out for too long but Saturday will be too soon.

“We have other options in that position so we will see. Tomorrow is important to have a good organisation and to have trust to come to good combinations and create chances. It will be a hard challenge.”
